I was lied to.

We all were, really. It all begins with that seemingly innocuous question we ask every five-year-old: What do you want to be when you grow up?

There's two lies in it. One is that we will wake up one morning and be grown, be a mature adult ready to take on all responsibilities. The second, even more insidious, is that once we are "grown up" we will know what we want and how to get it. A third lie is that we will BE something, that our job will be so fulfilling it defines us.

I am so lost and confused.
