And I want to state this for the record, for the benefit of everyone who looked at me with a horrified look when I said I had a 15-page paper due in two days that I had barely started: HA! I pounded out 13 pages in a single day--good pages, too--and still got nine hours of sleep the night before the paper was due. I AM AWESOME!!!
In other news, Chris and I are headed home for spring break to do a month's worth of wedding planning in the span of a week. It actually seems almost manageable, which is strange, because it isn't, really. Anyways, here's who we have to see/what we have to buy or arrange for:
Minister Photographer Church wedding planner Invitations Gift registry Shoes (for me) Headpiece and veil Dress alteration Flowers Cake Tuxes (for all the men) Name change
Add to that Easter and seeing friends and family, and it will be a miracle if we pull it off. I think we just might...but don't expect any blogging while we're gone.
I am happy to report that after seven months, I have finally finished The Fellowship of the Ring! This is clear evidence that I must find more time to read. And that my college's Reading Day (known on campus as Dead Day) is not so much a day to study as to catch up on pleasure reading. And play a ton of Civilization.
Today I started on my 15-page paper, my only difficult final. So far, it's been fun, since I'm writing it as a short story involving time travel. If it turns out well, I'll post exerpts.
How many times must I almost get hit by cars? I'm up to three near misses today alone, and honestly, none of them were even my fault. Drivers in Ellensburg are jackasses. Maybe it's the fact that they're college kids. Ugh. The behavior isn't any worse than in Seattle, I suppose, but in Seattle I could expect that drivers wouldn't stop for me if they didn't have to. Here, it's anybody's guess what they're going to do.
Example: I approach the crosswalk of the road that runs through the middle of campus. It is passing period, and dozens of other college students are also milling around. I come to the curb and see a car coming, but he's a ways off still and seems to be slowing down for me. I step into the crosswalk and he suddenly speeds up, lurching to a stop a few feet away from me. He then laughs with his buddy about my frightened-bunny expression.
This quarter, my finals are actually spaced out pretty nicely. I have one major assignment or paper due each day this week (except Thursday) and three finals next week, all on different days. With a little luck, I should be able to get through finals, well, not stress-free, but better than I have in quarters past.
The weather here is totally wack. Last week, there was still frost on the ground in the mornings and the creek was still partially frozen. At the moment, the temperature outside is in the upper 70s. I'm not exaggerating either--the radio confirmed it.
As of last Saturday, I am Camp Pigott's Business Manager. I rule! It's not at all what I thought I would be doing this summer, but the more I think about it, the more I like the idea. Plus, this means that I'm now on the same level as Chris again, just like we were the first summer I worked at camp. Not that I'm competetive...
